The Precipice was my final major study project for my Master's at the University of Hertfordshire.
This project means a lot to me and I will continue to expand on the universe of the Precipice.
The Precipice is a science fiction TV series set in the Arctic Circle, where the sun never sets, at the edge of a dramatic mountain range. The city of Steinrygg is split into two fractions: the humans live in the daylight in the upper section of the city, while the vampires occupy the valley below, protected from the sunlight by a heavy mountain fog. Dominating the city is the austere headquarters of the authoritarian government, connecting both the human and vampire realms. The severe concrete building runs from above the cliff’s edge through the centre of the mountain and down to the valley below, providing a central forum where vampires and humans can converge. For centuries, the two fractions have coexisted under a strict alliance between the government of humans and vampires.
Peace has been maintained through a mutual agreement which benefits both sides. As stated by law, all citizens of Steinrygg must donate one litre of blood per month. The penalty for failure to donate is punishment. Vampire blood is used for medical and genetic enhancements for the human population, and human blood is to meet the vampires’ dietary needs without the loss of human life. A new recreational drug, Daywalker, is circulating among young vampires, allowing them to walk amongst humans in the daylight. It’s been identified that repetitive use of the new drug is causing violent vampire outbursts, resulting in human and vampire deaths. A survivor of one of these brutal drug-induced attacks is now showing signs of genetic alterations that could lead to the end of centuries of peaceful coexistence between humans and vampires.
